Reports to: HearstLab Co-Lead
HearstLab is the mission-driven venture arm of the Hearst Corporation, investing in early-stage, female-founded and led startups. We invest from Pre-Seed through Series B across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Japan, with a focus on AI/tech-driven software businesses in sectors aligned with Hearst’s 360 businesses, e.g., media/advertising, e-commerce, healthcare, transportation, financial services, and real estate. We write $1–$2M checks, lead and co-invest, and add meaningful value beyond capital through the Hearst platform, our 200+ person Scout network, and a hands-on founder community.
We are hiring a VentureSenior Associate to join our U.S. investment team. This is a high-impact, NYC-based role for an investor early-to-mid in their career who is ready to take ownership of sourcing, run diligence workstreams, support live deals, and play a central role in portfolio support and the day-to-day operations of the Lab.
Core Responsibilities
🧠Sourcing & Investment Execution
- Proactively source high-potential, revenue-generating startups led by female CEOs, with business models aligned to Hearst’s strategic focus areas; build and manage a healthy, high quality pipeline.
- Generate qualified inbound and cultivate investor referrals, expanding deal flow beyond HearstLab’s current coverage.
- Run diligence workstreams—financial analysis, market and competitive research, customer and reference calls, and technical evaluation—partnering with the Lab co-lead and broader team through deal close.
- Build trusted, founder-first relationships throughout the diligence process via transparent communication and clear expectation-setting.
- Activate the HearstLab Scout network (200+ women across Hearst’s businesses) and the broader Hearst community to deepen diligence and assess strategic alignment.
- Draft clear, compelling investment memos and recommendations for HearstLab leadership and the Investment Committee.
🚀 Portfolio Company Support
- Support portfolio companies as a day-to-day point of contact, helping founders tap HearstLab’s platform, community, and Hearst resources; serve as board observer where assigned.
- Provide hands-on support on financials, competitive positioning, go-to-market, and fundraising—pitch prep, data rooms, metrics, and investor introductions.
- Facilitate connections to potential customers, partners, advisors, talent, and recruiters.
- Help surface portfolio challenges and opportunities and collaborate with the team on tailored support, including M&A/exit support such as market mapping and comps.
